In case you haven’t heard, we here at Epicurean Musician are super excited for the upcoming Equifunk Music Festival, from August 16 to the 18th in Equinunk, PA.  Returning for it’s 6th summer, Equifunk may well be the only all-inclusive music-and-camping weekend you’re likely to find in the entire Northeast, and man does it sound like an epic good time!

Among the many stellar bands you’re likely to see at this year’s throw-down, one particular favorite of ours is sure to cure what ails you—musically, that is.  Emergency Service is a 7-piece blend of diverse musicians with a love of hard rocking live shows and edgy, fun, and catchy studio tracks.

Blending together elements of rock, pop, hip-hop, and a pinch of reggae flare, Emergency Service is an equal opportunity musical outfit that is sure to please most any music aficionado.  With a lyrical positivity that is often desperately lacking in modern pop-rock, this band’s sound often hints at overtones of Gym Class Heroes, OAR, and even The Script.

Formed in 2005 in New York City by Sam Rivers (guitar/vocals) and Ed Matos (vocals), Emergency Service is a modern and hard-hitting musical reflection of the vibrant city they call home.  With some more killer Big Apple musicians on bass, drums, lead guitar, and even trumpet, what I like most about Emergency Service is their fun and simple hooks and easily hummable melodies, thanks in large part to the ‘higher voice’ of the many brass lines that grace each and every track.

Some of the band’s highlights of late include opening for Matisyahu at last year’s “Alive @ 5” at Stamford Downtown, playing the Central Park Bandshell for the Susan G. Komen “Rock the Cure” to over 1,000 people, and rocking the world-famous Bowery Ballroom in NYC.

Most recently, and hot off the press, Emergency Service was selected to be a part of Coca Cola’s “52 Songs of Happiness” campaign, which, in collaboration with music listening agency Music Dealers, will help showcase 52 globally emerging artists across Coca-Cola’s digital channels, with a combined audience of more than 70 million worldwide!  Emergency Service was screened from over 20,000 submissions from unsigned artists that incorporated the soda brand’s ‘five note’ motif; their original song, “Hideaway,” will be featured in the soon-to-be-launched campaign, so keep your eyes open and your ears peeled!

Newcomers to the Equifunk scene, Emergency Service is sure to entertain.  You do NOT want to miss these dudes play poolside on Friday night.  If you just can’t wait, though, here’s a video preview of what you’re likely to see and hear at Equifunk VI:
